Andhra Pradesh

Ugadi celebrated as the first day of the Telugu new year in the states of Andhra Pradesh , Telangana, and Karnataka. Important Ugadi customs include the preparation of Ugadi Pachadi ( pickle ) and Panchanga Shravanam ( reciting astrological predictions for the coming year ) .

Ratha Saptami It is celebrated to commemorate the birth of the Sun God.

Tirupati Ganga Jatra It is a week-long event where devotees offer food and sarees to Gangamma ( the protector goddess of Tirupati ) .

Pyditthalamma festival There is a cattle trading festival that takes place in Vizianagaram.

Atla Tadde is celebrated on the third day of the Krishna Paksha of Ashizham by married Hindu women for the health and long life of their husbands.

Rottella Panduga ( Rotis Eid ) is a three -day festival held at the Bada Shaheed Dargah in Nellore . It honors the 12 martyrs whose remains are buried on the premises.

Visakha festival It is a 3 -day festival of arts , crafts, and cuisine of Visakhapatnam district . It is organized annually by the Tourism Department of the Government of Andhra Pradesh and the district administration.

Lumbini The festival is held in honor of Buddhism. It begins on the second Friday of December each year and lasts for three days.

Chandanotsavam ( Chandana Yatra ) is held at Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Temple in Simhachalam during the months of March and April.

Vinayak Chavithi It is mainly celebrated for seven to ten days in Sekanipakkam.

Tirumala Brahmotsavam A Hindu festival celebrated annually at Tirumala Venkateshwara Temple , Tirumala.

 

Arunachal Pradesh

Shapawng Yong Manau Poi is celebrated by the Singpho tribe. It is usually celebrated between February 12th and 15th .

Pongtu is an agricultural festival celebrated by the Tutsa tribe on the eve of the rainy season.

infatuation Tangsa is an agricultural festival of the community.

Nyokum Celebrated by the Nyishi tribe for better productivity , prosperity and happiness of all human beings on earth .

Mopin It is celebrated by the Galo tribe to ward off evil spirits.

Murung Celebrated by the Apatani tribe in Lower Subansiri district.

Dree Festival ( Agricultural festival ) celebrated by the Apatani tribe in the Ziro Valley. Five major deities are appeased : Tamu , Metw , Medwr , Mapin , and Denyi.

Reh Celebrated by the Idumishmi community, the festival worships the gods Maselo - Zinu and Nani Intaya .

Buri - Boot Yulo is celebrated by the Nyishi tribe.

Solung It is an agricultural festival celebrated by the Adi tribes.

Assam

Bihu : It is celebrated three times a year : Bohag Bihu in April ( symbolizing a good harvest ), Kati Bihu in October ( symbolizing cutting and binding of grains ), Magh Bihu in January ( symbolizing the grain harvesting season ) .

mee - dum - mee - fee It is an ancestor worship festival celebrated by the entire Ahom community.

Baishagu is celebrated by the Bodo Kacharis in mid-April.

Ambubachi Fair It is a festival of the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati and is held every year during the monsoon season ( mid-June ) .

Ali - Ai - Ligang It is an agricultural festival that lasts for 5 days and is celebrated by the Mishing tribe.

Assam Tea Festival is organised in Jorhat district.

Bare Saharia Bhaona It is a 200 -year-old drama festival held every 5-6 years in Jamugurihat, a small town in Sonitpur district.

Majuli The festival is celebrated on the banks of the Luit River. The Majuli festival is always held during the winter season ( November ) .

Dehing Patkai The festival is held in Lekhapani in Tinsukia district. The festival was started in 2002 by the Assam government.

Kaziranga Elephant Festival is celebrated in Kaziranga National Park since 2003 for the conservation and protection of Asian elephants .

Rongkar And Chomangkan The festival is celebrated by the Karbi tribe.

 

Bihar

Chhath The puja ( Surya Shashthi ) is celebrated on the sixth day of the month of Kartik. It is a four- day festival. The first day ( taking a dip in the holy river ), the second day ( known as Kharna , which involves a day-long fast ), the third day ( preparing the offerings ), and the fourth day ( offering the offerings ( arghya ) before sunrise ) .

Rajgir Festival It is an annual three-day event in Rajgir, started in 1986. It is celebrated to highlight the historically and culturally rich heritage of Nalanda and Rajgir.

Sonpur The fair is a month-long event that takes place on Kartik Purnima in the month of November and is held at the confluence of two rivers , the Ganga and the Gandak.

Salehesh It is celebrated every year in the Mithila region of Bihar during the auspicious month of Shravan ( rainy season ) .

Bihula The festival is mainly celebrated in the Bhagalpur district of Bihar.

Chhattisgarh

Goncha Utsav ( Chariot Festival ): Celebrated by the tribes of the Bastar region. It is celebrated during the Rath Yatra.

Bhoramdev The festival is held near the Bhoramdev Temple in Kabirdham district , also known as the Khajuraho of Chhattisgarh.

Hareli The festival is celebrated by farmers from various communities on the new moon day of the month of Shravan. The goddess Kutki Dai is worshipped.

Gauri - Gaura Marriage Celebration - At night, idols of Gauri ( Parvati ) and Gaura ( Shiva ) are made from clay ( from a holy place like a pond etc. ) by two different generations and they are decorated with shiny foil.

Bastar Dussehra ( Jagdalpur Dussehra ) is a 75- day festival that began in the 13th century during the reign of King Purushottam Dev ( the fourth king of Bastar ) . The local deity , Goddess Danteshwari Devi, is worshipped during this festival.

Sao Joao Festival Celebrated by the Catholic community on June 24th each year , it is dedicated to St. John the Baptist.

Shigmo ( Spring festival ) celebrated in the last month of the Hindu calendar, Phalguna ( February March ) .

The feast of St. Francis Xavier ( Goinchea Saibache festival ) is celebrated on the third day of December each year.

Sunburn festival started in 2007 as a 3- day music festival in Goa .

Rann Utsav It is celebrated every year in November in Kutch and continues till Holi.

Tusuperb or Capricorn It is a harvest festival celebrated in the month of January. On this occasion , unmarried girls decorate wooden or bamboo frames using colored papers and then immerse them in a nearby river.

Sarhul It is celebrated during the spring season when the sal trees sprout new leaves.

Sal flowers are collected and offered to God.

Sohrai It is celebrated on the new moon day after Diwali. People light lamps in the evening, and the next day they bathe their cattle and apply vermilion mixed with oil to their heads.

Java The festival is celebrated for fertility and better fortune.

Rohini The festival is celebrated at the time of sowing seeds.

tulip The festival is celebrated at the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in Srinagar. A large variety of tulips are displayed on the occasion.

Navreh is celebrated as the lunar new year .

Ladakh

tak - bulk tse - chu It is celebrated on the 10th day of the Tibetan calendar in the month of July - August .

Yuru Kabgyat Lamayuru has a two-day festival which is celebrated in the month of July - August.

Matho Nagrang It is celebrated at the Matho Monastery in Ladakh on the 15th day of the first month of the Tibetan calendar .

The Dosmoche festival was started by the kings of Ladakh.

Ladakh Crops The Harvest Festival is celebrated in the month of September , lasting for 2 weeks and includes mask and folk dances , theatre shows , displays of local handicrafts and archery competitions.

Other Indian festivals

Diwali ( Diwali ) is also called the Festival of Lights. The festival derives its name from the rows (avali) of earthen lamps ( deepa ) . In Jainism , Diwali marks the nirvana of Lord Mahavira. Holi The first evening of the festival is celebrated as Holika Dahan or Chhoti Holi and the next day is called Holi.

Ram Navami It is a festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Rama, son of King Dasharatha.

Dussehra ( Vijayadashami , Dussehra , or Dashain ) is a Hindu festival that celebrates the victory of good over evil.

Navratri Celebration It symbolizes the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon king Mahishasura.

Ganga Dussehra It is celebrated on the tenth day of Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month every year.

Pola It is a festival of the states of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh which is celebrated by farmers by worshipping bulls.

Mahavir Janma Kalyanak ( Mahavir Jayanti ) celebrates the birth of Mahavira, the twenty-fourth and last Tirthankara ( supreme preacher ) .

Buddha Purnima ( Vaisakh ) is the full moon day that commemorates the birth , enlightenment and attainment of Mahasamadhi of Gautama Buddha .

Milad - un - Nabi / Eid - e - Milad It is a precious festival for Muslims , who celebrate the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad.

Krishna Janmashtami ( Gokulashtami ) a Hindu festival

It is a celebration of the birth of Lord Krishna.

Eid al - Fitr​ It marks the end of Ramadan , a holy month for Muslims.

Nagula Chavithi ( Snake Festival ) celebrated on the fourth day of Diwali. It is a major festival in Andhra Pradesh , Karnataka and parts of Tamil Nadu.

Losar Tibetan New Year is celebrated in February. It is celebrated in Sikkim.

Guru Purnima The festival is celebrated by Hindus , Jains and Buddhists in India in the month of Ashadha.

Raksha Bandhan It is a Hindu festival celebrating the brother - sister relationship. It is celebrated on the last day of the Hindu lunar calendar month of Shravan.

Onam Festival It falls during the Malayalam month of Chingam ( August - September ) and marks the homecoming of the famous King Mahabali.

Kali Puja It is celebrated on the new moon day of the Hindu month of Kartik.

Guru Nanak Jayanti ( Gurupurab ) celebrates the birth of the first Sikh Guru , Guru Nanak.

Eid al-Adha ( Bakrid ) honors Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son. In the Islamic lunar calendar , Eid al - Adha falls on the tenth day of Dhu al- Hijjah.

Good Friday ( the Friday before Easter ) is the day on which Christians annually commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Easter It is a major festival of the Christian Church , celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion .
