Andhra Pradesh

Kondaveedu Fort : Located in Guntur district, it was built in the 13th century by Prolaya Vema Reddy of the Reddy dynasty.

Gooty Fort : Located in Anantapur district.

Kondapalli Fort : Located in Krishna district and was built by the Reddy dynasty in the 14th century.

Gandikota Fort : It was established by Kapa Raja Neki near Bommanapalli village.

Vizianagaram Fort : It was built by Vijaya Rama Raju, the king of Vizianagaram.

Udayagiri Fort : This fort was built during the Gajapati Empire.

Chandragiri Fort : Built in the 11th century by the Yadava rulers, this fort is located in the Chandragiri suburb of Tirupati.

 

Arunachal Pradesh

Bhishmanagar Fort : Located in the Dibang Valley district. Decorated with pottery, this fort was built in the 8th century BC by the Vidarbha king Bhishmaka from mud bricks.

Eta Fort : Located in Itanagar, this fort was built in irregular shape by King Ramachandra of the Jitari dynasty.

 

Assam

Garchuk Lachit Garh : Located on the western side of the Ahom village in Guwahati, this fort was built during the reign of Lachit Borphukan.

Garh Doul : A site near the Tezpur area of Sonitpur district declared a protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India or ASI .

Kareng Ghar Fort : This means " royal palace " and is located in Rangpur. This fort was made of wood.

Talatal Ghar : It is a seven-storey monument located in Sivasagar and was built by the Ahom king Swargadeo Rajeswar Singha in the 18th century .

 

Bihar

Munger Fort : This is a 14th- century fort located on a hilltop on the southern bank of the river Ganga.  Is located.

Rohtasgarh Fort : Built in the city of Rohtas, on the banks of the Son River. Some historians say that King Harishchandra commissioned the fort.

Jalalgarh Fort : This fort was built by Syed Muhammad Jalaluddin Khan. Some historians claim that it was founded by Saif Khan, the Nawab of Purnia.

 

Chattisgarh

Ratanpur Fort ( Bilaspur ): It has four entrances - Singh , Ganesh , Bhairav and Semar gates.

Chaiturgarh Fort : Built by King Prithvidev I. The fort has three main entrances, namely Menaka , Humkara, and Singhdwar.

 

Goa

Aguada Fort : This seventeenth-century Portuguese fort is located on Sinquerim Beach . The fort was originally built in 1612 to defend against the Dutch.

Reece Magoos Fort : It is situated on the banks of Mandvi River.

Terekhol Fort : This fort was built in the 17th century by Maharaja Khem Sawant Bhonsle of Sawantwadi. The fort was rebuilt in 1764 when it was captured by the Portuguese Viceroy Dom Pedro Miguel de Almeida . In 1788 , the fort was legally incorporated into Goa.

 

Gujarat

Uparkot Fort : Located in Junagadh, it was established at the foot of the Girnar hills during the reign of the Mauryan Empire.

gentleman Fort : This is a 15th -century fort located in the city of Ahmedabad. It was built by Sultan Ahmed Shah I.

Bhujia Fort : The iconic Bhujia Fort, located outside the present-day city of Bhuj, was built by Rao Godji.

Kan Thakot Fort : It was the capital of the Kathias who were later defeated by the Chavadas.

Dhoraji Fort : Located near Rajkot , it houses a palace known as Darbargadh , a three-storey building.

Manek Burj ( Ahmedabad ): Named after the great 15th century Hindu saint Maneknath

Haryana

Dhosi Hill The fort was built during the reign of the Suri dynasty on the orders of Hemu , who was the chief minister of the Suri king Adil Shah Suri.

Asigarh Fort : Located in the town of Hansi in Hisar district, it is said to have been built during the 12th century for Prithviraj Chauhan, the king of Ajmer and Delhi.

Madhogarh Fort : It is located atop the Madhogarh hill in Mahendragarh district and was constructed during the reign of Raja Madho Singh of Jaipur.

 

Himachal Pradesh

Kangra Fort : Built by the royal Katoch dynasty, it is also known as Nagarkot Fort.

Sujanpur Tihra Fort : Raja Abhay Chand made it the capital of his kingdom. He built this fort in 1758 AD .

Haripur Fort : It was built by Raja Hari Chand Neguler of Kangra and is located at a strategic location on the Dhauladhar ranges.

Nurpur Fort : It belonged to the Pathania dynasty which was earlier called Dhameri.

Gandhola Fort : An 8- storey architectural marvel built in 1700 AD by Raja Man Singh.

 

Jharkhand

Palamu Fort : It consists of two forts – the Old Fort and the New Fort . The forts were built by Chero chiefs Medini Roy and Pratap Roy during the early Mughal period. The New Fort was built by Raja Medini Roy. The architecture is in the Islamic style , reflecting the conquests of Daud Khan.

 

Karnataka

Gulbarga Fort : Located in Kalaburagi district, it was built by Alauddin Hasan Bahman Shah, ruler of the Bahmani dynasty.

Bidar Fort : This fort was built by Ahmad Shah Wali Bahman. Sultan Ahmad Shah I of the Bahmanid dynasty had shifted his capital from Gulbarga to Bidar.

Chitradurga Fort : Built between the 11th and 13th centuries

It was built by the Chalukyas or Hoysalas between the 1st and 2nd centuries and was spread on the banks of the Vedavati River.

Gajendragarh Fort : Built by the famous Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Gajendra means elephant god and Garh means fort.

Bellary Fort : This fort is located on top of the Ballari Gudda hill. It was built in two parts , the Upper Fort and the Lower Fort.

Malkhed Fort ( Manyakheta Fort ): It is one of the old forts of the Rashtrakutas and Chalukyas.

Nagra Fort : It was built by Veerabhadra Nayaka of the Keladi dynasty.

Badami Fort : It was built by Chalukya king Pulakeshi.

 

Kerala

Palakkad Fort : Built by Hyder Ali, it is also known as Tipu's ( Hyder Ali's son ) Fort.

St. Angelo Fortya transgender Fort : Located in Kannur on the Arabian Sea coast, it was the first Portuguese fort built in India by Dom Francisco de Almeida, the Portuguese viceroy.

Bekal Fort : Located in Kasaragod, near the Karnataka border. It is a sea fort built by Shivappa Nayaka. It is the largest fort in Kerala.

Anjengo Fort : Also called Anchuthengu Fort , it is located in Thiruvananthapuram. It was built by the East India Company and served as a good place for signaling ships.

Fort Emmanuel : The first European fort in India was built by the Portuguese in the year 1503 .

 

Madhya Pradesh

Orchha Fort Complex : It was built by the Bundela Rajputs in the early 16th century by Raja Rudra Pratap Singh of Orchha State .

Gwalior Fort : It is called the " Gibraltar of the East " and is situated on a steep sandstone outcrop. It is a hill fort near Gwalior , built by King Suraj Sen during the 6th century AD in honor of Saint Gwalipa.

Chander The fort is located on a hill southwest of the Betwa River in Chanderi ( Ashoknagar ) . It has three entrances, called " Hawa Paur ," "Khooni," and " Khooni. " It is known as 'Darwaza ' and ' Kati Ghati ' .

Ahalya Fort : It is located on the banks of the Narmada River in Maheshwar , Khargone.

Mandsaur Fort ( Dashpur Fort ): It was built by Hoshang Shah Ghori, one of the first Islamic kings of the Malwa region.

 

Maharashtra

pylon The fort ( Prachandgad Fort ) is a large fort located in Pune. It was the first fort captured by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 1646 at the age of 16 , becoming the center of the Maratha Empire.

Panhala Fort ( also known as Panhalgad ): It is located at a pass in the Sahyadri mountain range, which was a major trade route from Bijapur in the interior of Maharashtra to the coastal areas. It is also called the " Snake Fort " because of its zigzag shape .

Daulatabad The fort , also known as Devagiri Fort , is a powerful hill fort located in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. It was the capital of the Yadava dynasty (9th century 14th century CE ) .

Sindhudurg Fort : Built by Shivaji Maharaj It was built by. The fort is located on the coast of Malvan town in Sindhudurg district in the Konkan region of Maharashtra.

Shivneri The fort is a 17th -century military fortification located near Junnar in Pune. It is the birthplace of Shivaji, the founder of the Maratha Empire.

Pratapgarh Fort : It is a hill fort built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj located in Satara.

Rajgarh ( literally meaning Ruler's Fort ) is a hill fort located in Pune. The fort was the capital of the Maratha Empire during the reign of Shivaji , after which the capital was shifted to Raigad Fort ( the first capital of the Maratha Empire ) .

Malhargarh The fort is a hill fort near Saswad in Pune. It is also known as Sonori Fort due to its location in the village of Sonori. The fort was named after Lord Malhari and was the last fort built by the Marathas.

Janjira Fort : It is situated on an oval-shaped rock on the Arabian Sea coast near the port town of Murud.

 

Manipur

Co. throat The fort : Located in Imphal, it dates back to 33 AD , when Nongda Lairen Pakhangba, the legendary god - king of Manipur , first ascended the throne. The word " Kangla " in the Manipuri or Meitei language means dry land. Kangala was the ancient capital of Manipur, and several Meitei kings ruled the state from this fort.

 

Nagaland

Khonoma Fort : This fort was built by the Angami Naga tribe.

 

Odisha

Barabati Fort : It was built by Markata Keshari of the Somvanshi ( Keshari ) dynasty in Cuttack.

Raibania Fort : This is a group of forts located in the Balasore district. The fort complex contains 161 fort deities . It was built by Langula Narasimha Deba, a ruler of the Ganga dynasty of Utkal.

Choodanga Gada : Located in Ganjam, it was built during the reign of the Gajapati dynasty.

Sisupalgarh : It is located in Khurda district and is related to Maurya and Kalinga dynasty.

 

Punjab

Qila Mubarak Bathinda Fort ( Bathinda Fort ) is a monument in Bathinda. It served as a prison for Empress Razia Sultan after she was defeated by her rebel general Malik Ikhtiyar - ud - din Altunia.

Gobindgarh The fort is a military fort located in Amritsar.

Bahadurgarh The fort was built in the 17th century by Nawab Saif Khan during the reign of Aurangzeb and was reportedly called Saifabad.

Rohtas The Qila or Rotas Ghur is a 16th -century fort located near the city of Dina in the Jhelum district of Punjab ( in present-day Pakistan ) . The fort was built by Sher Shah Suri , an Afghan general. The fort was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. UNESCO called it an " exceptional example of Muslim military architecture of Central and South Asia . "

Phillaur Fort : It was originally a " Saran " , but was rebuilt as a fort by Maharaja Ranjit Singh.

 

Rajasthan

Amer Fort : Originally built by Raja Man Singh, it was expanded by Jai Singh I.

Junagadh Fort : Built by Raja Rai Singh. The fort was originally called " Chintamani " and was renamed Junagarh or " Old Fort " in the early 20th century . The fort complex was built under the supervision of Karan Chand, the prime minister of Raja Rai Singh, the sixth ruler of Bikaner.

Mehrangarh The fort was built by Rao Jodha, the ruler of Mandore and founder of Jodhpur city.

Chittorgarh The fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The fort was the capital of Mewar and is located in the present-day city of Chittorgarh.

Lohagarh The fort ( or Iron Fort ) was built by Raja Surajmal in the 18th century.

Nahargarh The fort is located on the edge of the Aravalli Hills. The fort's original name was Sudarshangarh , but it also came to be known as Nahargarh , meaning ' abode of tigers ' .

Bhangarh The fort is a 16th- century fort located on the border of the Sariska Sanctuary in Alwar.

Ranthambore The fort is located in Sawai Madhopur . It is located within the Ranthambore National Park. Inside the fort are three Hindu temples dedicated to Ganesha , Shiva, and Ram Lalla. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Kumbh Bhalgarh The fort was built by Rana Kumbha of the Sisodia Rajput dynasty. It has the longest continuous wall in India , and the second longest in the world.

Jaigarh The fort : It is located on a hill called " Cheel ka Teela " ( Eagle's Hill ) in the Aravalli Range . It was built by Jai Singh II to protect the Amer Fort.

Jaisalmer Fort : Built by the Rajput king Rawal Jaisal, it is also known as the Sonal Fort or Golden Fort.

 

Tamil Nadu

Vellore The fort : Built in the 16th century on the banks of the Palar River, it was the headquarters of the Vijayanagara Empire.

Gingee Fort : It was called the ' Troy of the East ' by the British. The famous Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj praised its marvelous construction , high walls and ramparts. Due to this, Gingee Fort has been praised as ' the most invincible fort in India ' .

Udayagiri Fort : This 17th- century fort is located on the Thiruvananthapuram - Nagercoil National Highway. It is also known as Dillanai Kottai or De Lannoy's Fort.

Sadras Fort : Located in Kalpakkam, near Mahabalipuram, this is one of the oldest Dutch forts in the country. The fort was originally a Hindu temple with Lord Vishnu as its presiding deity.

Alamparai Fort : It was built by the Mughals and was under the control of the Nawab of Arcot.

Rock Fort : It houses a beautiful temple complex consisting of two temples , namely Ucchi Pillayar Temple , dedicated to Lord Shiva and Thayumanaswamy Temple , dedicated to Lord Ganesha.

 

Telangana

Golconda Fort : Located in the western part of Hyderabad city, it was originally known as Mankal. It was a mud fort built during the reign of the Raja of Warangal and served as the principal capital of the Qutb Shahi kings.

Bhongir Fort : The Western Chalukya dynasty built the Bhongir Fort in the 10th century .

Warangal Fort : The fort has four ornamental gateways known as Kakatiya Kala Thoranam. After the division of Andhra Pradesh, the Kakatiya arch was adopted and officially incorporated into the emblem of Telangana. Khush Mahal ( Shitab Khan Palace ) is located adjacent to Warangal Fort , built by the Tughlaqs in the 14th century on the site of the Kakatiya palace. The fort is on the " tentative list " of UNESCO World Heritage Sites .

Devarakonda Fort : Located in the town of Devarakonda in Nalgonda district, it was conquered by Mada Naidu, one of the eight kings of the Padma Nayaka dynasty.

 

Uttarakhand

Pithoragarh Fort : Also known as London Fort , Bulaki Fort ( bowl-shaped fort ) , and Gorkha Fort, it was built in 1789 by the Gorkhas.

 

Uttar Pradesh

Agra The fort : It was the main residence of the Mughal emperors. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 and was originally built of red stone by Akbar.

It includes the Jahangir Mahal, built by Akbar. The Sheesh Mahal , Khas Mahal , Diwan - i - Khas , Diwan - i - Aam , and Moti Masjid ( or Pearl Mosque ) were all built by Shah Jahan.

Kalinjar The fort is located in Banda and was built by the Chandela ruler Paramaditya Deva.

Chunar The fort ( also known as Chandrakant Chunargarh and Charanadri ) is located in Mirzapur. Chunar handicrafts, especially figurines and toys , are made of clay and plaster of

Paris is known for the production of sea cups and plates.

Ramnagar The fort is located on the left bank of the Kud River in the central Himalayan ranges . It also served as the capital of the old Bandaralta kingdom. The fort was restored in 1972 by the Archaeological Survey of India.

Allahabad Fort : It was built by Emperor Akbar in 1583. It is the largest fort built by Akbar.

 

West Bengal

Kurumbara Fort : Located in Gaganeshwar village on the outskirts of Keshiary town, it was built by Suryavanshi Gajapati, the king of Odisha.

Puducherry

Fortlouis or Fort Saint Louis : It was a French fort located on the east coast of India. The fort was built around 1701 AD by Francois Martin.

 

Delhi

Red Fort : Built in the 17th century by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan as a palace fortress for his capital, Shahjahanabad. The Moti Masjid is a mosque inside the Red Fort complex in Delhi.

There is a white marble mosque , which was built by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.

Siri Fort : It was built by Sultan Alauddin Khilji to the north of Mehrauli.

Nizwa Fort ( Oman ) – It was built in the mid-seventeenth century by Imam Sultan bin Saif Al Yaribi.

Queenscliff Fort ( Australia ): It is located in Victoria.

Masada The Fortress ( Israel ): Built as a palace complex in the classic style of the early Roman Empire , it was commissioned by King Herod the Great of Judea. It is a symbol of the ancient Kingdom of Israel.

Al Zubarah Fort ( Qatar ): It was originally built by Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani in 1938 as a Coast Guard station.
